Leads

Import leads

Add leads to a market from a CSV or Excel file, matching each column to a lead field.

Import a spreadsheet of leads into the selected market. Owners and admins can import, from a computer.

Before you start

Check the market in the top bar. Every row in the file is imported into that market, with that market's lead fields.

Import a file

Open Leads and choose Import in the header.

Drop a .csv or .xlsx file on the dialog, or click to choose one. A file can hold up to 10,000 rows. Not sure of the columns? Choose Download sample for a file with every field this market takes.

If the workbook has more than one sheet, pick the Sheet to import, then choose Next.

Check the lead field chosen for each column. A column whose header reads as a field name is matched for you, and each column shows an example value from the file. Choose Do not import for a column you want to leave out.

For a field with fixed options, match each value in the file to an option. A value you leave unmatched imports empty, and the dialog counts them for you.

Choose Next. If no column is matched to a required field, the dialog says so, and the rows without it will be refused.

Check every row before it imports. Each row of the file is listed with the cell that needs attention marked and the reason under the row:

  • Errors are cells the import would refuse, such as a rating that is not a number or a name left blank.
  • Warnings import, but not as the file reads: a value that matches no option, two rows for the same phone or website, or a name a lead in the market already has. Choose Open lead to see that lead in a new tab.
  • Updates mark a row whose phone or website matches a lead already in the market, so the import updates it.

Fix a value in its cell, or choose the remove button to leave a row out. Turn on Show only rows with errors to work through the errors, and choose Restore removed rows to bring the removed rows back.

Choose Import. If rows still have errors, the dialog asks first; choose Import anyway to import the rest, and the rows with errors are refused.

Wait for the result. A row that matches a lead already in the market by Google place ID, phone or website updates that lead. The dialog shows how many leads were created, updated and refused, and names each refused row by its row number in your file.

You can press Enter to move to the next step until you reach the review.

What is not imported

  • List fields. Fields that hold several values, such as amenities or brands, cannot be imported from a file. The dialog names them.
  • Values that match no option. A value in a fixed-option field that you leave unmatched imports empty.

An interrupted import does not resume

If an import fails or you choose Stop, the rows already imported stay. Import the file again to finish. A row that matches a lead already in the market by Google place ID, phone or website updates that lead instead of adding a second one; a row with none of those is added again. Closing the dialog does not stop an import; the table updates as rows arrive.
